Tonsilectiomy

 

The indications for tonsilectomy are:

1. having 6 tonsilitis in 12 month period  

2. having 3-4 per year over 3 years

3. have sleep apnea

4. have speech problems due to tonsils

5. have an abcess behind the tonsils and have to go into the hospital to have them drained.

As you can see the tonsils have to give you a fair amount of problems to warrent the risk of anesthesia (all though it is a rare risk).  We still take out tonsils but not so readily as we did in the past.
